Proceeds Aimed at Making a World of Difference to Children with Cancer
The New York Yankees and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center have announced a new and unprecedented initiative to raise funds to help support research and treatment for children with cancer. Memorial Sloan Kettering treats more children with cancer than any other institution in the country and has established worldwide standards of care through the combination of pioneering research and lifesaving treatments. The world-renowned New York Yankees are committed to providing support to the dedicated team of medical professionals at Memorial Sloan Kettering so that they may further their understanding and treatment of cancer.
In order to raise awareness as well as funds, Yankee Manager Joe Torre and legendary baseball Hall-of-Famer Yogi Berra have unveiled a limited edition Yankees Universe t-shirt. All net proceeds from the sale of these t-shirts will be donated to the newly established Yankees Universe fund for pediatric cancer research, education, and patient care at Memorial Sloan Kettering.
“The Yankees are proud to partner with Memorial Sloan Kettering, the foremost cancer research and treatment center in the world,” said George M. Steinbrenner III. “This exciting program will help many kids and their families lead a better life.”
“We are grateful and extraordinarily excited by this unique opportunity,” said Richard J. O’Reilly, MD, Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics at Memorial Sloan Kettering. “The partnership of these two internationally renowned institutions means that an act as simple as buying a t-shirt can make a world of difference to a child with cancer.”
The new Yankees Universe t-shirts can be purchased through www.Yankees.com and at Yankee Stadium. To learn more about the Yankees Universe fund and how you can help, please visit www.mskcc.org/YankeesUniverse or call 1-800-688-1827.
