At Memorial Sloan Kettering, we do everything we can to ensure that promising discoveries made in our laboratories are further developed and commercialized. The Office of Technology Development (OTD) aims to help each innovation reach its full potential for benefiting people everywhere.

The office’s mission is to make certain that Memorial Sloan Kettering’s inventions have the greatest chance of helping patients through new therapies and other useful products becoming available on the market. We are also committed to creating maximum value from technology transfer to support further scientific research at Memorial Sloan Kettering.

What We Do

Memorial Sloan Kettering takes pride in an exceptional record of translating new insights into useful medical and scientific applications, while building productive relationships with outside entrepreneurs, investors, and industry partners.

All inventions made by our staff, or using our institutional resources, are owned by Memorial Sloan Kettering and overseen by the OTD. The office is staffed by technology transfer professionals with backgrounds in science, intellectual property, and business development. Members of the OTD work closely with Memorial Sloan Kettering investigators and with outside collaborators and partners to evaluate, protect, market, and license new inventions.

The OTD team also works to promote economic growth and job creation in the New York City region and beyond — for example, by supporting the formation of start-up businesses. We help Memorial Sloan Kettering researchers explore entrepreneurial opportunities, and work closely with venture capitalists, angel investors, and other funding sources to develop and nurture new enterprises.

In addition, the OTD is responsible for managing all research-related contracts and agreements relating to technology transfer.
