The Breast Service at Memorial Sloan Kettering offers a 1-2 year clinical research fellowship which will provide the surgical resident interested in breast cancer with a strong foundation for fellowship and a career in academic surgery. The Service, led by Monica Morrow, MD includes 15 full time breast surgeons with a broad range of academic interests. The Breast service has played a leadership role in the development of sentinel node biopsy, the application of ACOSOG Z0011 findings in practice to reduce the morbidity of breast cancer treatment, elucidation of the clinical outcomes of DCIS in a variety of patient groups, and in leveraging the increased use of neoadjuvant chemotherapy to decrease treatment burden. Other areas of interest include evaluation and management of women at increased risk for breast cancer development and lymphedema.

The research fellow will be assigned an academic mentor to ensure maximum productivity and will have access to detailed service databases, a medical editor, data managers, and biostatistical support. The fellow will be expected to participate in the monthly research conference and to attend the weekly multidisciplinary breast conference, fellowship lecture series and the journal club which constitute the educational arm of our fellowship training program. The Breast Fellowship is a highly competitive program which currently trains 5 fellows annually.
