Neoplastic Hematopathology Fellowship

Neoplastic Hematopathology Fellowship

The Neoplastic Hematopathology fellowship involves one to two years of selective, neoplastic hematopathology training. The curriculum of the fellowship and fellows’ responsibilities are designed to fit the fellow’s career goals, with training in diagnostic neoplastic hematopathology, research, and test development in neoplastic hematopathology.

The Neoplastic Hematopathology fellowship is not ACGME accredited, and completion of this fellowship alone does not grant the opportunity to sit for the American Board of Pathology Hematopathology board examination. The fellowship is designed to provide fellows with additional clinical and research experience supplemental to an ACGME accredited hematopathology fellowship, and in some cases, to provide foreign pathologists with hematopathology training that is unavailable in their home country.

The Hematopathology Service at Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK) is a high-volume clinical service where 20000 hematological malignancy biopsies and flow cytometry cases are accessioned per year. Eighteen hematopathology faculty are enthusiastically engaged in teaching the fellows in all areas of hematopathology. Didactic lectures and microscope sessions are given by the faculty to the fellows throughout the year. The fellow is exposed to research opportunities based on a high-volume MSKCC hospital clinical service as well as an extramural consult service. In addition, participation is required in relevant educational activities, such as weekly consensus/interesting case conference, weekly lymphoma and leukemia tumor boards, journal clubs, as well as other academic activities offered by the Department of Pathology and Hematology/Oncology Departments.
