MSK Awards and Appointments September 2024

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) today announced the following awards and appointments:  

Yasmin Khakoo Received the 2024 American Medical Women’s Association INSPIRE Award and Elected to the Child Neurology Society Board of Directors

Yasmin Khakoo, MD, FAAN, FACS, FAAP, pediatric neurologist and neuro-oncologist, and director of  Child Neurology Program, was awarded the 2024 American Medical Women’s Association INSPIRE Award. This award celebrates accomplished women in medicine who exemplify the highest values in vision, integrity, service, and collaboration in medicine and healthcare.

Dr. Khakoo was elected to the Child Neurology Society (CNS) Board of Directors. The CNS Board of Directors comprises seven elected officers who governs CNS, ensuring that all CNS activities align with their mission, strategic plan, organizational priorities, and oversee the society’s finances.

Cristina Antonescu Awarded the Nobility in Science Award

Cristina Antonescu, MD, pathologist and director of Bone and Soft Tissue Pathology, was honored with the Nobility in Science Award by the Sarcoma Foundation of America (SFA). Dr. Antonescu was awarded for her groundbreaking contributions to sarcoma research.

 

Michael Offin Awarded Peer Reviewed Cancer Research Program Grant from the Department of Defense

Michael Offin, MD, thoracic medical oncologist and co-director of the Mesothelioma Program, received a Peer Reviewed Cancer Research Program Advancing Cancer Care through Clinical Trials Award from the Department of Defense. Dr. Offin will use the award to execute a phrase 2 clinical trial of sacituzumab govitecan-hziy in patients with previously treated diffuse pleural mesothelioma.

MSK Named One of America’s Best Specialized Hospitals by Newsweek

Newsweek ranked MSK #2 in their 2025 America’s Best Specialized Hospitals list. Newsweek partnered with research firm Statista to rank the world’s best specialized hospitals. This year’s rankings featured 300 hospitals specializing in cardiology and oncology, pediatrics, cardiac surgery, endocrinology, gastroenterology, orthopedics, pulmonology, neurology, neurosurgery, urology, obstetrics, and gynecology.

MSK Named One of America’s Greatest Workplaces for Parents and Families by Newsweek

Newsweek has named MSK as one of America’s Greatest Workplaces for Parents and Families in their 2024 list. Newsweek partnered with data analytics firm Plant-A Insights Group to curate a list to help parents find the companies that stand out for how they prioritize the needs of families.

MSK Received 2024 Practice Greenhealth Top 25 Environmental Excellence Award

MSK’s Sustainability Program has been named one of the top 25 hospitals in the country for environmental excellence for the nineth consecutive year by Practice Greenhealth. Practice Greenhealth is the leading membership and networking organization for sustainable health care. The Environmental Excellence Awards recognize the best in healthcare environmental stewardship.
