Craig B. Thompson Named to AMNY Metro and PoliticsNY’s Power Players in Health Care List

Craig B. Thompson, MD, President and CEO, has been named to the first AMNY Metro and PoliticsNY’s Power Players in Health Care list. The list salutes top public officials, policymakers, hospital and health maintenance organization (HMO) executives, doctors, nurses, labor, business and nonprofit leaders who manage the daily work in the healthcare industry while also envisioning a better future for all New Yorkers.


Kathryn Martin Receives The Leon J. Warshaw Leadership in Healthcare Award from the Northeast Business Group on Health (NEGBH)

Kathryn Martin, Chief Operating Officer, was selected to receive The Leon J. Warshaw Leadership in Healthcare Award from the Northeast Business Group on Health (NEGBH). The award celebrates extraordinary service, leadership, and commitment in creating a healthy workforce and improving the healthcare system. 


Esther Babady Recognized on Crain’s New York Business 2021 Empire Whole Health Heroes List

Esther Babady, PhD, D(ABMM), FIDSA, FAAM, Clinical Microbiologist and Chief of the Clinical Microbiology Service, has been selected for the second annual Crain’s New York Business 2021 Empire Whole Health Heroes list. This recognition honors health care, essential and business leaders who demonstrated leadership and commitment to the safety and wellness of New Yorkers as it relates to the revitalization and reopening of New York City. Throughout the pandemic, Dr. Babady used her vast expertise in clinical microbiology and molecular diagnosis of infectious diseases to keep employees and patients safe. 


Jedd D. Wolchok Receives the ESMO Award for Immuno-Oncology 2020

Jedd D. Wolchok, MD, PhD, FASCO, Lloyd J. Old/Virginia and Daniel K. Ludwig Chair in Clinical Investigation; Chief, Immuno-Oncology Service; Director, Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy at MSK; Associate Director, Ludwig Center for Cancer Immunotherapy, is the recipient of the ESMO Award for Immuno-Oncology 2020, by the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO).  

Dr. Wolchok delivered his award lecture at the ESMO Immuno-Oncology Congress 2021. The award is presented to an individual internationally recognized for outstanding achievements in the area of Immuno-Oncology.  


Sanjeethan Baksh Named a 2021 STAT Wunderkind

Sanjeethan Baksh, PhD, Physician Scientist and member of the Lydia Finley Lab at Sloan Kettering Institute (SKI), was named a 2021 STAT Wunderkind. STAT celebrates the next generation of scientific superstars across North America on the cusp of launching their careers. 


Several MSK Researchers Receive the Mark Foundation for Cancer Research 2021 ASPIRE Award

Justin Perry, PhD, Immunologist, Kayvan Keshari, PhD, Biochemist & Bioengineer, and Benjamin Greenbaum, PhD, Associate Attending, received the Mark Foundation for Cancer Research 2021 ASPIRE (Accelerating Scientific Platforms and Innovative Research) Award.

The ASPIRE program enables innovative approaches to solving impactful problems in cancer research. These awards support projects that aim to answer key feasibility and proof-of-concept questions in an accelerated timeframe, typically one year. Projects that successfully demonstrate feasibility may be selected to apply for additional funding in a second phase.


Howard I. Scher Receives the Chemotherapy Foundation Ezra Greenspan Award

Howard I. Scher, MD, Head of the Biomarker Development Program, D. Wayne Calloway Chair in Urologic Oncology, is the recipient of the Ezra Greenspan Award. Dr. Scher was honored with the award at the 2021 Innovation Gala organized by the Chemotherapy Foundation.  

The Chemotherapy Foundation is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1968 dedicated to the control, cure and prevention of cancer through innovative medical therapies, The Foundation provides seed money to gifted researchers to start groundbreaking work to facilitate breakthrough science aimed at a specific therapeutic goal.  


Anton Safonov Receives San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (SABCS) Clinical Scholar Award

Anton Safonov, MD Medical Oncology/Hematology Fellow is a recipient of the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (SABCS) Clinical Scholar Award. SABCS and its co-sponsor the American Association of Cancer Research (AACR), award scholarships every year to help raise visibility for researchers and their work. The researchers are typically early in their career. 


Margaret K. Callahan Awarded the Stuart Scott Fund Translational Grant

Margaret K. Callahan, MD, PhD, Research Director, Immunotherapeutics Program, received the Stuart Scott Fund Translational Grant, funded by the Stuart Scott Memorial Cancer Research Fund in Memory of James Ebron, established by the V Foundation and ESPN.

Dr. Callahan’s research focuses on dissecting the mechanism and understanding the scope and impact of immunotype across diverse cancer patient populations. The translational grants fund research of the biological basis of cancer disparities experienced by patients of minority populations. The research topics include causes, aggressiveness, treatments or relapses of cancer.  


Justin Jee Awarded the Lung Cancer Research Foundation (LCRF)-AstraZeneca Research Grant

Justin Jee, MD, PhD, Research Scientist, received the Lung Cancer Research (LCRF)-AstraZeneca Research Grant. The LCRF-AstraZeneca partnership grant focuses on resistance to targeted therapies and immunotherapies. LCRF is a nonprofit organization focused on funding innovative, high-reward research with the potential to extend survival and improve quality of life for people with lung cancer. 


William Rosa Selected as a Cambia Health Foundation 2021 Sojourns Scholar  

Erica Fischer-Cartlidge

William Rosa, PhD, MBE, NP-BC, FAANP, FAAN, Psycho-Oncology Postdoctoral Research Fellow, was accepted to the Cambia Health Foundation Sojourns Scholar Leadership Program. 

The program identifies, cultivates and advances future palliative care leaders and seeks to support outstanding physician, nurse, social work, physician assistant, chaplaincy, psychology, pharmacy and other emerging leaders by investing in their professional development.
