1. What cancers does MSK Kids treat?

MSK Kids treats all types of childhood cancer — from the most common to the most complex. That means no matter what diagnosis or stage of treatment you’re facing, our team of experts is available. Here is a list of some of the cancers we treat.

2. How soon can I see a doctor?

We’ll make sure to see you and your family as soon as possible, which is often within 24 hours of your first phone call to MSK Kids. To make a first appointment, call us at 833-MSK-KIDS.

3. Can I come to MSK Kids for a second opinion?

Of course. At MSK Kids, we know you’re facing a lot of big decisions, and we’re here to help you find the path that’s right for you. Call us at 833-MSK-KIDS to talk with us about your options.

4. Do you take my insurance?

Many insurance carriers cover treatment at MSK Kids, but we know that the approval process can be confusing. Give us a call at 833-MSK-KIDS, and a member of our designated team of counselors can help you through the process.

5. Why should I choose MSK Kids for my child’s care?

At MSK Kids, our goal is the same as yours: to get your child back to a full, healthy life as quickly as possible. Our experts and extensive treatment options give us the best chance of doing so. As part of the largest childhood cancer program in the United States, the specialists at MSK Kids have seen and cared for children with all types of cancer.

And while our doctors, nurses, and other staff are caring for your child, MSK scientists are right next door, working in our labs to create the breakthrough treatments of the future. In fact, many therapies that got their start at MSK Kids are now the standard of care at other hospitals. We have made a number of notable discoveries that have led to longer, happier lives for young people with cancer — and we’re always looking toward the future. Take a look at how we’ve improved the outlook for people facing pediatric cancer.

We also recognize that treatment at MSK Kids goes far beyond medical care, and we have programs especially for parents, siblings, and other important people in your child’s life to offer support and guidance on the road ahead. Check out all of the ways we are here to support your family

6. What types of treatment do you offer?

We offer the best and latest treatments in cancer care for children and young adults. These include the latest advances in chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery. We’re also able to offer innovative immunotherapy and antibody treatments, including those that aren’t widely available. We’re continuously pioneering newer and more advanced techniques, which allows us to better understand the nature of each child’s tumor and use targeted therapies to treat it.

7. Will my child have to miss school?

If your child has to miss school, we will make sure that he or she stays on track, or quickly gets back up to speed. MSK Kids is part of the New York City Department of Education’s Hospital Schools program, which means we have full-time teachers available for your child. We have instruction available for pre-kindergarteners through high schoolers, and our teachers will work together with your child’s school. Your child can take classes with other children at MSK, or receive private lessons at his or her bedside. We also have specialists on hand who can assess your child’s academic, social, and emotional needs as he or she heads back to school.

8. What resources do you have for my family?

From doctors to dance therapists, nurses to nutritionists, child life specialists to chaplains, every single one of us is here to help strengthen and support your family throughout your child’s care. Take a look at some of our offerings for you and your family here

9. What kind of follow-up care does a childhood cancer survivor need?

Reaching the end of treatment is a huge milestone, one everyone at MSK Kids loves to celebrate! Of course, our team will still be here to care for your child even after treatment ends. We offer two programs once children are no longer on active treatment, so they have long-term support from our team even into adulthood.
