I hope patients after their initial visit with me feel lighter, that I am here to support them and that they have an entire team and staff who are ready to help them on their journey.
My name is Danielle Bello. I'm a surgical oncologist at Memorial Sloan Kettering and I specialize in the treatment of melanoma and other skin cancers.
When patients come to see me, I like to sit down after getting to know them and really outline what the treatment plan is going to look like, what my surgery is going to look like for them, and what the steps after may look like.
Patients with melanoma who come to see me, I would categorize them into two groups. The early stage patients, and some patients who either have more advanced or recurrent disease.
We are combining surgical treatments and medical treatments. We have cutting-edge clinical trials that are enrolling patients for new drugs in patients who have failed these standard of care treatments.
I think it definitely provides patients with a sense of hope where they may have run into a wall at other institutions or they may have felt like there were no more treatment options available for them. We do have these treatment options.
I see patients at MSK Commack and MSK Nassau. They can get their visits, their treatments, their procedures, and their follow up close to home where their support system is.
What I think draws patients to come here and stay is expert-level clinical care. They feel comfortable in our hands. They feel they're getting empathetic and compassionate care and we're seeing the whole patient and we're taking care of them.
