I think it's important for people to understand where they're at, what the strategies are that are available to them, and that there is hope.

My name is Alexis Chidi and I'm a thoracic surgeon here at Memorial Sloan Kettering.

I treat patients who have lung cancer, as well as cancers of any part of the chest.

A person diagnosed with lung cancer today can have hope that we have the best treatments that have ever been available. From a surgery perspective, we can do big operations through tiny incisions.

I do robotic surgery for the most part. What’s unique about our program here at MSK is that we’re able to offer that to more people. So we’re able to do it for people who have bigger tumors or more advanced disease. They’re able to get in and out of the hospital with less pain, and they’re able to return to what they like to do much faster.

I think the biggest concern that everybody has is, what is this? And how am I going to do? I hope that when patients come to see me, they walk away feeling reassured about what the process is going to look like and what the next steps will be.

One of the things that I love about practicing here at MSK is the fact that I'm surrounded by experts in every field. All of these people know more than almost anybody else in the world, and they’re all bringing their perspectives and expertise together to think about your care. Everybody is here to help you. And I hope that's something that comes across when you come to see us.
