Meet MSK Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) Consulting

An expert team within the Nursing Department at MSK has recently launched a new program called MSK Evidence-based (EBP) Consulting.  The program expands MSK’s Nursing Department’s proprietary methodology, which uses current and best evidence from studies—combined with patient care data, clinician expertise, and patient preferences—to guide healthcare practices and decisions while maximizing alignment with an organization’s values and strategic priorities.

“Nurses are critical to the development and implementation of EBP to improve the outcomes of those they care for and work with across the care continuum,” says Tracy Gosselin, PhD, RN, FAAN, Chief Nursing Executive at MSK. “The MSK EBP Consulting team is now taking their culture-changing work outside the walls of MSK and sharing it more broadly.”

With extensive educational training and practical experience in EBP, MSK’s consultants are prepared to help organizations adopt and utilize MSK’s proprietary EBP methodology, including the SEEK™ Practice, the potential benefits of which include:

  • Empowering clinical nurses and other healthcare professionals,
  • Promoting effective problem-solving,
  • Improving patient and process outcomes, and
  • Aligning clinical decision-making with institutional values and a commitment to excellence.

“Our goal at MSK EBP Consulting is to enable all institutions to establish a robust infrastructure for the sustainable integration of EBP into their operational framework,” explains Wayne Quashie, Ed.D., RN, CNS, MSK’s Director of Nursing for EBP. “EBP should be a standard practice for every healthcare professional, ensuring the delivery of innovative care to patients.”

Ashley Hole, DNP, FNP-BC, CPON®, EBP-C, who serves as Program Manager of EBP for the Nursing Department, shares that with our consulting services, “those at the beginning of their EBP journey can have a simple yet effective way to utilize and teach the entire EBP process.  We have successfully used this method for our novice clinical nurses up to our Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) and Nursing Directors.  And for those who may be further along on their EBP journey but are struggling to fully embed it within their institution, our team of expert mentors and instructors will help with those crucial next steps.”

MSK is ready to help bring EBP to partner institutions so that they can fully realize its potential. Currently, MSK offers:

  • Classes and consultations are provided virtually via Zoom—a convenient and economical way to receive the consulting team’s services.
  • A range of consulting packages to suit each institution’s specific situation and needs.
  • Educational content, format, and materials, all developed and validated at MSK, to help other institutions teach and sustain EBP at their organizations.

“Our consulting service will save healthcare organizations the five years we spent creating the tools, content, and curriculum so that you can go directly to operationalizing and enculturating EBP within your institution,” continues Ashley Hole. “Our programs here at MSK have proven effective at bridging the gap between learning EBP and embedding it into daily practice, and this is what makes us uniquely positioned to offer consulting work in this area.”
