Comprehensive Second Opinions

Even if you are not able to travel to New York for an appointment, you can still receive a comprehensive opinion from a team of MSK doctors by requesting an MSK Remote Second Opinion.

The MSK Remote Second Opinion helps ensure that you receive the most accurate diagnosis and best care plan possible. This option brings together our experts from pathology, radiology, and oncology. Your comprehensive MSK Remote Second Opinion will include a pathology review; a radiology review; and a second opinion and recommended care plan from an MSK oncologist specialized in your disease.
Patients may also request a video consultation with an MSK expert oncologist as part of a Remote Second Opinion. For an MSK Remote Second Opinion with Video Consultation, we require that a local doctor participate in the video consultation. For the consultation, our team will find a time that works for everyone who needs to participate. After the video consultation, you will receive a comprehensive written report with our recommendations for your care.

Consultations for Stand-Alone Services

We also offer a range of stand-alone services.

You can receive a written consultation from an MSK oncologist specialized in your disease. The consultation will include a second opinion and recommended care plan. This service includes a review of your pathology or radiology reports, but not the materials that are analyzed to form the report. For a comprehensive consult that includes a review of your pathology and radiology materials, consider an MSK Remote Second Opinion.
For an Oncology Consultation with Video, we require that a local doctor participate in the conversation. For the consult, our team will find a time that works for everyone who needs to participate. After the video consultation, you will receive a written report with our recommendations for your care. This service includes a review of your pathology or radiology reports, but not the materials that are analyzed to form the report. For a comprehensive consultation that includes a review of your pathology and radiology materials, consider an MSK Remote Second Opinion with Video Consultation.
You can send pathology slides or samples to MSK for review by one of our pathologists. Along with the slides, please send a copy of the original report and its translation in English. The original and English versions of the pathology reports must include the following information:
  • Your name
  • Your date of birth
  • Specimen number
  • Specimen part type
  • Hospital/Laboratory name and return address for material
You can send radiology images to MSK for review by a radiologist. Please send the images on CDs in DICOM format, and include the original report and its translation in English.
Integrative medicine services are designed to complement mainstream cancer therapies such as chemotherapy and radiation. You can receive a report from one of our integrative medicine experts with recommendations for therapies that may help you. The recommendation will be based on the quality and quantity of the information we receive. Examples of integrative approaches we may suggest include massage, acupuncture, mind-body therapies, exercise programs, nutritional counseling, and advice on herbs, botanicals, and supplements.
