Ahmed Al-Niaimi, MD, FACOG, FACS
Gynecologic Surgeon
My Role at MSKWe post reviews for MSK healthcare providers who have at least 30 patient experience surveys completed. If you do not see reviews for a provider, it may be because they do not yet have enough survey responses, or the provider may not be part of the group of healthcare providers included in the survey.
Only outpatient providers are included in the survey. Healthcare providers who only work in the hospital or in urgent care are not included in the survey. Pathologists or researchers who do not provide direct care to patients do not have reviews.
Areas of Expertise
My Specialties
- Gynecologic Cancers
- Ovarian Cancer
- Uterine (Endometrial) Cancer
About Me
- Attending Surgeon, Section of Ovarian Cancer Surgery
As a gynecologic surgeon, I specialize in the surgical treatment of gynecologic cancers, including:
- Cervical cancer
- Gestational trophoblastic disease
- Ovarian cancer
- Uterine (endometrial) cancer
- Vulvar cancer
- Vaginal cancer
I have more than 25 years of experience in surgery and have spent the last 15-plus years performing surgery specifically for the treatment of gynecologic cancer.
My approach to cancer treatment is straightforward: prioritize the well-being of patients above all else. This involves personalizing gynecologic cancer care to each patient’s needs to provide the highest standard of care.

In my practice, I offer state-of-the-art surgical procedures, like:
- Cytoreductive surgery for ovarian cancer with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC)
- Single-port laparoscopic surgery
- Surgical cytoreduction in the upper abdominal cavity
Cytoreductive surgery is an advanced type of surgery used to remove as much cancerous tissue in a person’s abdomen as possible, in one procedure. When appropriate, I give chemotherapy during the procedure (in the operating room) or during recovery. I combine this treatment, called “HIPEC,” with surgery to kill all visible and microscopic cancer cells. Because this is a complex, multi-stage surgery, it is important that it is done by a surgeon with expertise in cytoreductive surgery.
I also offer minimally invasive surgical procedures whenever it is safe to do so. This includes robotic and laparoscopic methods, like single-port laparoscopic surgery, which uses only one incision (small cut).
When patients come to see me, one of the questions that rightfully crosses their mind is, “What is cancer, why me, and what lies ahead?” My response will always remain the same: “you are not alone.” Both I and my dedicated team, along with the entire staff of surgeons and medical providers at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, are ready to accompany you every step of the way. We are here to not only answer questions, but, more importantly, to walk hand-in-hand with you on your journey to recovery. We are committed to helping you live the fulfilling life you are meant to have.
I understand that “cancer” is a daunting word that casts a shadow over anyone’s life. I also understand that a diagnosis of gynecologic cancer carries an added layer of complexity, because it can affect the way a patient feels about their self-image and femininity. I aspire to be the physician and surgeon who can provide empathetic support during this time. Ever since my early childhood, I have been drawn to the field of medicine. The positive impact that it has not only on patients and their families, but on humanity as a whole, has always inspired me. This very reason drove me to pursue a career in medicine.
My research primarily focuses on identifying and refining surgical techniques, improving patient outcomes, and minimizing the side effects and complications associated with surgery. Through my research and published work, I have demonstrated that optimizing surgical procedures and reducing complications significantly influences the long-term survival of people with cancer.
In addition to research, I am passionate about educating the next generation of gynecologic oncology professionals, including surgeons and fellows in training, both at MSK and internationally. I actively participate in many national and international courses aimed at teaching and advancing surgical approaches.
