Get to Know Me

I am a geriatrician who specializes in the care of older adults with cancer. Caring for older adults with cancer is complex, and I am one of the few physicians who specializes in cancer care for this population. I see patients at Memorial Hospital and the David H. Koch Center for Cancer Care at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) in New York City.

I have dedicated my entire career to provide excellent, comprehensive, and compassionate care for older adults who have cancer. For almost 10 years, I was practicing as both geriatrician and colorectal oncologist at MSK. Subsequently, for two years, I was Chief of the Geriatrics Service at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. Currently, I work as head of the Geriatrics Service at MSK, and my goal is that we offer older people the specialized care they need as early as possible during the cancer journey.

In addition to routine illnesses such as high blood pressure, or diabetes, many older adults experience aging-related issues such as memory impairment. I work in collaboration with other doctors at MSK to address these issues.

Before and during your visit with me, I ask questions that help me, and others, to get to know you better. These questions and answers provide us with insight about your ability to benefit from various cancer treatments, as well as your goals and preferences for receiving care. This helps us develop a treatment plan that maximizes the benefit and reduces the risk as much as possible.

I am a fierce advocate for improving care for older adults with (or without) cancer. I have presented extensively both nationally and internationally and have published many papers on why older adults diagnosed with cancer need to see a geriatrician. In the past, some patients would visit the geriatrics clinics not knowing why they needed to see a geriatrician. After the visit, they left asking why they did not see a geriatrician much earlier.
