About Me

What I Do at MSK

I am a plastic surgeon who specializes in reconstruction after cancer surgery. The type and complexity of the reconstruction depends on the cancer surgery. My goal is to restore the function and appearance of people with cancer after they have had surgery to remove tumors and hopefully improve their quality of life.

Both of my parents are cancer survivors. Having been a part of their process, I know what it is like to go through the progression from diagnosis to treatment. I place a great deal of emphasis on patient education and believe that all patients should be active participants in their care and the decision-making process. Each of my patients is unique, with their own story and goals for reconstruction. For me, it is important to manage expectations in order to optimize my patients’ experiences and outcomes.

The overarching focus of my research is on using advances in imaging to propel plastic and reconstructive surgery forward. Specifically, I want to see technology used in the education of medical students, residents, and patients, as well as in preoperative planning and outcomes-based research. My emphasis is on integrating technology into every aspect of patient care. I use 3-D photography during consultations, and I am exploring the value of 3-D photography in the operating room and to assess postoperative outcomes. A significant focus of mine is developing point-of-care educational tools for patients, using 3-D imaging to improve their understanding and reconstructive options.
