Charlotte Hughes, MD
Bone Marrow Transplant Specialist
My Role at MSKWe post reviews for MSK healthcare providers who have at least 30 patient experience surveys completed. If you do not see reviews for a provider, it may be because they do not yet have enough survey responses, or the provider may not be part of the group of healthcare providers included in the survey.
Only outpatient providers are included in the survey. Healthcare providers who only work in the hospital or in urgent care are not included in the survey. Pathologists or researchers who do not provide direct care to patients do not have reviews.
About Me
- Assistant Attending Physician
I’m a hematologist and medical oncologist who specializes in treating people for many types of blood cancers. This includes:
- acute leukemia
- myelodysplastic syndrome
- myelofibrosis
- multiple myeloma
I’m an expert in caring for people with blood cancers who need blood or bone marrow stem cell transplants. I see patients at the David H. Koch Center for Cancer Care at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
Clear and honest communication is at the core of my practice. I’ll talk with you and your family about complex health information in a simple, compassionate way. I want you to be able to fully understand your diagnosis, treatment options, and predicted outcomes (results).
When we have this kind of open communication, it helps lower anxiety. It gives you the information you need to make informed choices with confidence. I want to make sure you feel supported, heard, and comfortable asking questions during treatment. I’ll work closely with you and your family to talk about treatment options. I’ll answer questions and learn about your preferences and values.
As a member of the Adult Bone Marrow Transplantation Service, I’m part of a group of many experts. I’m fortunate to share my practice with excellent nurses, advance practice providers, nurse coordinators, social workers, and case managers. Together, we’ll give you the best care possible.
I participate in research studies, known as clinical trials, researching ways to improve results for people having transplants. I study ways to reduce side effects of transplant while keeping treatment results the same. I also study ways to improve the success of transplants. I’m researching how we can improve your health condition before a transplant, and monitor you better after the transplant.
A bone marrow transplant specialist is a doctor with special training in bone marrow transplants.
