Get to Know Me
I am an interventional radiologist specializing in the use of image-guided minimally invasive techniques to treat cancer. I perform a wide array of procedures, including biopsies for cancer diagnosis, mediport placement for chemotherapy, and treatment administration directly to tumors using just a small needle or catheter. The procedures that I execute usually require no breathing tube, have a lower risk than surgery, and frequently do not require a hospital stay.

My research focuses on combining current treatment modalities used in cancer care, and interventional radiology is at the forefront of this innovation. I am studying the protentional synergy of interventional procedures and systemic therapies, such as immunotherapy. The interventional strategies that we use to destroy tumors can potentially prime the immune system, creating a systemic anti-tumor effect. This process resembles a vaccination against the tumor. I am fortunate to carry out this research with collaborators from the Melanoma Disease Management Team and Sloan Kettering Institute.
Modern medicine is fast evolving. As a radiologist, I am an expert in imaging, an essential tool that helps patients and physicians understand the diagnosis and ultimately, evaluate and select the best intervention. It is my goal to help my patients interpret their imaging results before, during, and after treatment to help them make the most informed decisions about their care. I look forward to establishing a healing relationship with each of my patients; every smile and handshake are opportunities for remedy. It is a privilege to team up with my patients and their caretakers to stand together against cancer here at MSK.

Hi, good morning. The whole experience was very good. The information that I was given was accurate and concise. However, I was left on hold at the beginning of the call before the physician came in for over 30 minutes. So if you're going to make an appointment for someone, make it accurately so that they can be there on time and not have to wait over 30 minutes for someone to pick up. Thanks.
I've got nothing but good things, positive things to say about Dr. He's expert in his field, extremely professional, but also has an amazing bedside manner. You can just tell that he cares very, very deeply about his patients and about their care. He's definitely one of the just best all around medical professionals that we've come in contact with. We can't say enough good things about him. So, thank you. Bye bye.
Dr. Zhan is friendly, thorough and clear in his explanations for my treatment. I will put my trust in him.
Very informative and considerate of concerns
I have found that every Professional that I come in contact with at MSK, the results are the same. Professional, experienced, knowledgeable and very caring. Dr Zhan was no exception. Explaining what the upcoming procedure entailed and all the possible scenarios we might encounter. I am very happy to have him on the next leg of my journey.
