Get to Know Me
I am a surgeon who cares for people with all types of breast cancer. I specialize in surgeries for cancerous and noncancerous diseases of the breast.
As a college student studying philosophy, cancer intrigued me; it represented a conflict between life and death, self and other. Then, as a medical student and surgical resident, I realized that the field of breast surgical oncology was advancing rapidly — treatments were becoming more refined and less invasive, and survival rates were improving. This meant that patients with breast cancer would have a choice of treatment options with equal benefit.
I found this compelling, and as a breast surgical oncologist, I enjoy helping my patients navigate their decision-making process. I make a point of letting patients know that they have a choice. I educate them on each treatment option so they feel empowered to not only make decisions but to feel good about them.

After completing my fellowship in breast surgical oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, I joined the United States Air Force. For a decade, I was assigned to the David Grant USAF Medical Center, Travis Air Force Base in California — the U.S. Air Force’s largest hospital — where I eventually achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and was appointed Deputy Squadron Commander and Chief of Surgery. There, I helped build a breast program, which provided care to patients from all over the globe. Across my two deployments, I also created a breast program in Afghanistan, which delivers cancer treatment to women with cancer who otherwise would not receive care.
In my personal time, I enjoy spending time with my family, running, and gardening.

Dr Choi is an extraordinarily skilled surgeon. He is also compassionate, positive, personable, explains things well, and is patient with listening to questions and responding to them in detail and with clarity. He is highly intelligent but modest...and uniquely attentive to addressing his patients' concerns about their own health. He took my health history into consideration and took time to hear my preferences about my care. Where other doctors might jump to conclusions about my age and presume to know what care I'd want based on my age, Dr Choi heard me when I asked him to explain all my options. The surgery he performed was masterful and I will be forever grateful for his expertise and kindness. My margins and lymph nodes were clean and my incision has healed almost undetectably. I feel so blessed to have had him as my surgeon.
The nurses and other staff in the office were also all very nice. Everything was explained thoroughly. Thank you.
Dr Choi is a very good doctor. Always listens to my concerns and explains info very clearly. Great surgeon and follow up skills etc. when I had to have surgery he has a great demeanor, calm and reassuring:)
Dr Choi is a kind, considerate and a great representative of the doctors, nurses and staff that are dedicated Memorial Sloan employees.
I truly believe in the doctors and nurses in what they do for me and others. They never dismiss my concerns or questions. They always explain to me what can be done or not done. I will continue to come to this facility and receive my care
