Get To Know Me

I have had the great opportunity to practice in a field that I love for the last 15 years. I trained in ophthalmology at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary from 2000 to 2003. During that time, I recognized that I love to effect change with my hands as well as my mind.

I was drawn to the creativity and process of plastic surgery, so I pursued further training in an oculoplastics fellowship. I’ve had great mentors and powers of example: My grandfather was an ophthalmologist in the Bronx following his time as a doctor in France during World War II, and my father is still practicing as a nationally recognized practitioner in the field of oculoplastics and orbital surgery. In fact, I did much of my training with my father, and we worked together in private practice for many years.

I find that the most rewarding and challenging part of my career is related to the care of patients with cancer around the eye. The sensitive nature of this area is rarely considered until someone experiences a problem. Dealing with oncological issues can be overwhelming, so I do my best to help patients understand their diagnosis — knowledge tends to help ease the mind. At the same time, I know from my own experience with cancer that we are all different in the way that we approach these life-changing moments.

I am so grateful to do the work that I do. My time in the operating room, where I am able to be relaxed and focused on the job at hand, is some of the best time in my life. I seek to reassure patients that their comfort is of major import to me.

Outside of the hospital, I am busy helping to raise three beautiful children, working to stay healthy, and doing my best to stay connected to my larger community. I enjoy regular surgical mission work outside of the country, and I try to support and stay involved with local volunteerism.
