Evan Smith, MD, FACOG
Gynecologic Surgeon
My Role at MSKWe post reviews for MSK healthcare providers who have at least 30 patient experience surveys completed. If you do not see reviews for a provider, it may be because they do not yet have enough survey responses, or the provider may not be part of the group of healthcare providers included in the survey.
Only outpatient providers are included in the survey. Healthcare providers who only work in the hospital or in urgent care are not included in the survey. Pathologists or researchers who do not provide direct care to patients do not have reviews.

About Me
- Assistant Attending Surgeon
As a gynecologic surgeon, I specialize in the treatment of:
My training and experience allow me to provide the latest, most advanced surgical procedures to the people in my care. I see patients at the Rockefeller Outpatient Pavilion in Manhattan and MSK Bergen in Montvale, New Jersey. I operate at Memorial Hospital and the Josie Robertson Surgery Center.
I was drawn to gynecologic oncology because I wanted to develop meaningful patient relationships and have a positive impact on the people I treat. It is a privilege to provide care and comfort to others during what is often the most difficult time in their lives.

After practicing in my home state of Louisiana, I now work at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) — the place where I trained as a fellow and consider to be my professional home. I work with a team of world-class experts, including fellow surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, and pathologists. Our shared goal is to put an end to cancer.
Surgical treatment for gynecologic cancers is not one-size-fits-all. I strive to individualize care. This means that I take the time to listen to my patients and learn what treatment approach is best for them. It is important to me that my patients fully understand their diagnosis and options for therapy.
Sometimes, the best option may be a major surgery to remove all visible tumors (surgical debulking). I also offer minimally invasive surgery whenever it is safe to do so. There are many benefits of minimally invasive cancer surgery. Some are a shorter hospital stay, less scarring, and faster recovery. I am an expert in minimally invasive surgery using laparoscopic and robotic methods.
I actively participate in clinical research to advance the way we approach cancer care. I also work side by side with surgical fellows to share my knowledge and skills with the next generation of gynecologic oncologists.
Outside of the hospital setting, I enjoy spending time with my wife and kids, cooking Cajun cuisine, traveling, and distance running. I’ve run the New York City Marathon multiple times with Fred’s Team to raise money for cancer research at MSK.
A gynecologic (GY-neh-kuh-LAH-jik) surgeon is a doctor with special training in surgery on the female reproductive system. This includes the cervix, endometrium, fallopian tubes, ovaries, uterus, and vagina.
