Katherine Gray, MD
Thoracic Surgeon
My Role at MSKWe post reviews for MSK healthcare providers who have at least 30 patient experience surveys completed. If you do not see reviews for a provider, it may be because they do not yet have enough survey responses, or the provider may not be part of the group of healthcare providers included in the survey.
Only outpatient providers are included in the survey. Healthcare providers who only work in the hospital or in urgent care are not included in the survey. Pathologists or researchers who do not provide direct care to patients do not have reviews.
About Me
- Assistant Attending Physician
I am a surgeon who specializes in treating cancers of the chest, including the:
I believe that my role is to help guide patients through all stages of the disease process. This can mean:
- Helping patients understand their treatment options
- Performing minimally invasive/incisionless biopsies
- Operating to remove cancer and
- Caring for patients through recovery and beyond
I understand that each person who comes to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center has a unique situation. My priority is providing safe, individualized care for every patient. I perform most of my procedures robotically, including robotic lung resection and robotic esophagectomy. Robotic surgery has revolutionized the field of cancer surgery by decreasing pain after surgery and shortening recovery time, helping patients get on their feet and back to their lives sooner. I am dedicated to providing my patients with state-of-the-art care and also perform robotic bronchoscopy and advanced endoscopic procedures. In addition to training in general surgery and cardiothoracic surgery, I have extensive training in using groundbreaking treatments, such as immunotherapy, to care for people with cancer. I chose to become a cancer specialist because of the relationships I have with my patients. Surgery is often just one part of a successful treatment plan for cancer, and I enjoy developing years-long relationships with my patients through treatment and recovery. My research interests include using the latest techniques to help understand which patients will benefit from which treatment. I also study the pathway through which esophageal cancer develops, so we can better understand what drives this disease. Outside of work, I enjoy cooking and exploring New York City with my daughter and husband.
A thoracic (thor-A-sik) surgeon is a doctor with special training in surgery on the chest, lungs, trachea (windpipe), and thymus.
