Kevin J. Curran, MD
Pediatric Hematologist-Oncologist
My Role at MSKWe post reviews for MSK healthcare providers who have at least 30 patient experience surveys completed. If you do not see reviews for a provider, it may be because they do not yet have enough survey responses, or the provider may not be part of the group of healthcare providers included in the survey.
Only outpatient providers are included in the survey. Healthcare providers who only work in the hospital or in urgent care are not included in the survey. Pathologists or researchers who do not provide direct care to patients do not have reviews.
Areas of Expertise
My Specialties
- Cellular Therapy, Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) T Cell Therapy, Pediatric Leukemia
About Me
- Associate Attending Pediatrician
I am a physician on the MSK Kids team who specializes in cellular therapy as a member of the Pediatric Stem Cell Transplantation and Cellular Therapies Service. I treat children and young adults with blood cancers such as leukemia, disorders of the bone marrow that hamper the ability to make normal blood cells, and immune system problems that impair the body’s ability to fight infection.
In addition to caring for patients, I am Pediatric Director of the Cellular Therapeutic Center at Memorial Sloan Kettering. In this capacity, my colleagues and I develop novel cellular treatments for children and young adults with leukemia and lymphoma that do not respond to standard therapies. Specifically, we used chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells to recognize and kill cancer cells.

This promising form of cellular therapy is currently being assessed in clinical trials at MSK Kids for children and adults with both blood cancers and solid tumors. The ultimate goal of cellular therapies is to provide more effective treatment options for all patients with cancer and avoid the long-term side effects that we observe in survivors of childhood cancers who received conventional anticancer treatments.
When I meet with a new patient and family, I speak with them to understand what kind of care they have already received and their personal goals for treatment. The families I care for are going through what is likely the most intense period of their lives. My goal is to get them back to their normal lives through more effective and less toxic therapies. I am most gratified when I see children I have treated resume their regular lives, going back to school, camp, or family vacations. I achieve this by working in collaboration with my colleagues at MSK Kids, who are all equally dedicated to caring for the whole patient and their family.
A pediatric hematologist-oncologist is a doctor who treats cancers of the blood in children and adolescents. This doctor is a hematologist (HEE-muh-TAH-loh-jist) who diagnoses and treats blood disorders. They also are an oncologist (cancer doctor).
