Marion Liu, MD
Surgeon
My Role at MSKWe post reviews for MSK healthcare providers who have at least 30 patient experience surveys completed. If you do not see reviews for a provider, it may be because they do not yet have enough survey responses, or the provider may not be part of the group of healthcare providers included in the survey.
Only outpatient providers are included in the survey. Healthcare providers who only work in the hospital or in urgent care are not included in the survey. Pathologists or researchers who do not provide direct care to patients do not have reviews.

About Me
- Assistant Attending Surgeon
I am a surgeon who treats people for stomach (gastric) cancer and soft tissue sarcomas such as gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST). I see patients at Memorial Hospital and Rockefeller Outpatient Pavilion in New York City and Memorial Sloan Kettering Monmouth in New Jersey.
As a surgeon, I aim to not just surgically remove the cancer but to take care of my patients and their families to the best of my ability. I want my patients to understand their diagnosis and treatment options so we can make decisions together about the best plan of action. In addition to surgery, these treatments may include chemotherapy, radiation, or even new treatments offered through clinical trials. I work closely with a team of medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, and pathologists to design a comprehensive and personalized plan for each patient.

Surgery plays a key role in the treatment of stomach cancer. When possible, I offer minimally invasive robotic surgery to remove the tumor and the surrounding lymph nodes. This technology can enhance recovery, but my priority will always be to offer the best option to each patient. In some cases, stomach surgery can alter how you eat and digest food. Our team of specialty trained nurses and nutritionists can help you adjust to eating after stomach surgery. My goal is not just to cure cancer but to optimize the quality of life of my patients.
In addition to treating patients with stomach cancer, I also study stomach cancer in the lab. We use mouse models to understand how stomach cancer develops and find novel ways to treat it. As much as possible, we build these models using the genomic characteristics that we observe in our patients, so they can closely represent the cancers that we are treating. Our goal is to take what we discover in the lab and translate it to clinical practice through clinical trials.
As a surgeon-scientist, I like to ask questions that challenge our understanding of cancer. I hope my patients will also ask me questions and challenge me to improve our treatment of stomach cancer.
A surgeon is a doctor with special training in many kinds of surgery.
