Get to Know Me

I am a board-certified medical oncologist.  My clinical practice is focused on the care of women with gynecologic cancers, and I have a special expertise in treating uterine sarcomas.

I have been on the attending staff at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center since 1998, working as part of a multidisciplinary team dedicated to caring for women with these diseases.

My clinical research is focused on developing novel treatments and improving treatment strategies for women with recurrent ovarian cancer or uterine sarcomas (leiomyosarcoma, carcinosarcoma, high grade undifferentiated sarcomas, endometrial stromal sarcomas, and others.  I serve as principal investigator for several national and international research studies in these areas. I also have an interest in patient-reported outcomes, including quality-of-life issues, related to cancer treatments.

In addition to serving on committees of the Gynecologic Oncology Group devoted to the research of health-related outcomes and novel drug development for uterine cancers, I  am active in the Sarcoma Alliance for Research through Collaboration. This consortium facilitates research collaborations among sarcoma specialists.

I earned my medical degree at Duke University School of Medicine, completed residency and oncology fellowship training at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center, and completed a master’s degree in epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health.

A gynecologic (GY-neh-kuh-LAH-jik) medical oncologist is a cancer doctor who specializes in gynecologic cancers. This includes cervical, fallopian tube, ovarian, uterine (endometrial), vaginal, and vulvar cancers.

Dr Hensley and her whole team were great. Radiology, however, was not timely at all with their report. Dr Hensley and I am both used to the mri team getting their report out within a few hours, had Dr Hensley and I not given up I would have been sitting there for 25 hours!
