Richard S. Matulewicz, MD, MSCI, MS
Urologic Surgeon
My Role at MSKWe post reviews for MSK healthcare providers who have at least 30 patient experience surveys completed. If you do not see reviews for a provider, it may be because they do not yet have enough survey responses, or the provider may not be part of the group of healthcare providers included in the survey.
Only outpatient providers are included in the survey. Healthcare providers who only work in the hospital or in urgent care are not included in the survey. Pathologists or researchers who do not provide direct care to patients do not have reviews.

About Me
- Assistant Attending Surgeon
I am a Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center fellowship-trained urologic oncologist and health services researcher with expertise in the open, robotic, and endoscopic surgical treatment of urologic cancers (testicular, kidney, bladder, and prostate).
I have a particular interest in improving the way we diagnose and treat people with testicular cancer (germ cell tumors). I aim to accomplish this by rigorously studying the impact that various treatment strategies have on health-related quality of life, assessing new ways to integrate novel diagnostics such a micro-RNA into clinical practice, and understanding long-term outcomes of surgical treatments like retroperitoneal lymph node dissection (RPLND).
In an effort to provide personalized and compassionate care to my patients, I help people find the best possible treatment that aligns with their values and priorities. I do this by empowering patients through education, taking time to address their concerns, and clearly communicating with them and their families. I am an active member of the National Cancer Institute’s Cancer Center Cessation Initiative (C3I) Implementation Science Working Group, which allows me to work at the national level to integrate evidence-based smoking cessation practices into oncology care. I am a native New Yorker who, when outside the clinic, makes time to enjoy all that New York City and Long Island have to offer with my wife and family. I enjoy skiing, biking, and fishing. I am also an avid fan of live music and New York sports.
A urologic surgeon is a doctor with special training in surgery on the genitourinary (jeh-nih-toh-YOOR-ih-nayr-ee) (GU) system. This includes the bladder, kidney, penis, prostate, and testicles.
