Samuel Cytryn, MD
Gastrointestinal Medical Oncologist
My Role at MSKWe post reviews for MSK healthcare providers who have at least 30 patient experience surveys completed. If you do not see reviews for a provider, it may be because they do not yet have enough survey responses, or the provider may not be part of the group of healthcare providers included in the survey.
Only outpatient providers are included in the survey. Healthcare providers who only work in the hospital or in urgent care are not included in the survey. Pathologists or researchers who do not provide direct care to patients do not have reviews.

About Me
- Assistant Attending Physician
I am a board-certified medical oncologist specializing in the treatment of gastrointestinal (GI) cancers, including:
Most of the people I see at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) have esophageal or stomach cancer. In addition to treating these cancers, I spend much of my time researching ways to improve treatment options for these diseases. To this end, I develop and lead clinical trials studying the next generation of immune-based drugs (immunotherapy), targeted therapies, and how new drug combinations may work to better treat these cancers.

My path to medicine and oncology began with my loves of science, teaching, and helping people (I taught elementary school before starting medical school). Getting to know my patients well and understanding what is important to them is important to me. This helps me to create care plans based not only on the unique qualities of my patient’s disease, but also on the unique qualities of the person, including their personal wants and needs for cancer care.
Receiving a cancer diagnosis is life-changing. Taking the time to share information and answer questions can help ease some of the fear that comes with a cancer diagnosis. Some of the most common questions and concerns I hear from the people in my care include:
· What does this diagnosis mean?
· What are the best treatments for my cancer?
· How are the treatments going to make me feel?
When I am not working, I love to travel and hike with my family, play basketball, and go running with my energetic rescue dog.
