Sandeep Raj, MD
Bone Marrow Transplant Specialist
My Role at MSKWe post reviews for MSK healthcare providers who have at least 30 patient experience surveys completed. If you do not see reviews for a provider, it may be because they do not yet have enough survey responses, or the provider may not be part of the group of healthcare providers included in the survey.
Only outpatient providers are included in the survey. Healthcare providers who only work in the hospital or in urgent care are not included in the survey. Pathologists or researchers who do not provide direct care to patients do not have reviews.

About Me
- Instructor
I am a medical oncologist who specializes in bone marrow transplantation and cell-based immunotherapies for blood cancers, including:
I see patients who have been admitted to the hospital to receive stem cells through a hematopoietic cell transplant (generally referred to as “bone marrow transplant” [BMT]) to treat their cancer or blood disorder. These cells can be from either a donor (allogeneic) or from the patients themselves (autologous).

As a member of the adult Bone Marrow Transplant Service, I am fortunate to work with a talented team of specialists that is united by the goal of delivering the best care possible. Our practice is informed by the latest clinical trials and advances in cellular immunotherapies. We offer many resources to help our patients and their loved ones feel supported before, during, and after the procedure.
My interest in BMT stems from my some of my earliest experiences caring for people with cancer. I learned to carefully consider not only each patient’s unique immune system, health, and medical history, but also their values and life circumstances. I prioritize each of these details when working with my patients to create a personalized treatment plan. The plans that we develop together are tailored to their individual goals and values and are aimed at getting them the best possible care.
I am also a physician-scientist whose research in the lab is focused on understanding and improving how cellular immunotherapies — including chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells and BMT — work to treat and potentially cure blood cancers using machine learning and artificial intelligence. In particular, I am interested in how the gut microbiome (bacteria living in our intestines) interacts with the immune system to increase the anti-cancer activity of cellular therapies.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends — skiing in the winter, swimming and hiking in the summers, and exploring New York City year
