Yonit Lavin, MD, PhD
Thoracic Medical Oncologist
My Role at MSKWe post reviews for MSK healthcare providers who have at least 30 patient experience surveys completed. If you do not see reviews for a provider, it may be because they do not yet have enough survey responses, or the provider may not be part of the group of healthcare providers included in the survey.
Only outpatient providers are included in the survey. Healthcare providers who only work in the hospital or in urgent care are not included in the survey. Pathologists or researchers who do not provide direct care to patients do not have reviews.
About Me
- Instructor
I am a thoracic medical oncologist who specializes in treating people with lung cancer, including non-small cell and small cell lung cancer. I take care of patients who are admitted to the hospital together with a team that includes nurses, pharmacists, nurse practitioners, specialists, and the patient’s primary oncologist. My goal is to ensure that patients are well cared for during this difficult time.
As a physician-scientist, I study the immune response to cancers in the laboratory with the goal of understanding pathways that may be important for improving cancer treatments. I specifically focus on immune cells called myeloid cells that accumulate in tumors to understand their role in tumor growth and whether targeting these cells can be a new avenue for treating non-small cell lung cancers.
A thoracic medical oncologist is a cancer doctor who specializes in thoracic (thor-A-sik) cancers. These are cancers that have to do with the chest, including lung, tracheal (windpipe), and thymic (thymus) cancers.
