Your time with Memorial Sloan Kettering doesn’t end when your active treatment does.
As part of your follow-up care, you will be seen by an advanced practice provider (APP). APPs are members of your healthcare team that work with your doctor to provide you with care or may see you instead of your doctor. APPs have specialized training. One type of APP is a nurse practitioner (NP).
One of our NPs will provide additional follow-up care for you. This NP specializes in caring for people who have had melanoma and knows how to monitor your health for any signs that cancer has come back. The NP can also help you manage any side effects you may have from being treated for cancer.
A visit with your NP includes:
- a review of your recent medical history and a physical examination
- screening referrals for other cancers
- healthy lifestyle recommendations, including nutrition, exercise, and help quitting smoking
- a treatment summary and follow-up care plan
After each visit, the NP will give a treatment summary and survivorship plan of care to you and your healthcare providers. Your treatment team can incorporate this information into your overall medical plan.
Your full treatment history with MSK is always available to your primary care doctors.
