The Department of Radiation Oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center is seeking applications for its Proton Therapy Clinical Fellowship. The fellow in this one-year program will receive comprehensive training in all aspects of proton radiation therapy. The fellow will gain extensive clinical experience in treating pediatric patients and adults with cancer using protons across a full range of disease sites. There will also be instruction in the technical and treatment-planning aspects of proton therapy. This fellowship is not accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.

Since MSK started its proton program, more than 2,000 people have been treated with this therapy. This includes children with cancer; people with head and neck, breast, central nervous system, spinal, and lung cancers; as well as people with sarcoma and gastrointestinal or genitourinary tumors. There is great opportunity for the fellow to gain proton knowledge in various disease types. 

The fellowship program emphasizes a multidisciplinary approach to the radiation treatment of disease. The fellow will attend a variety of clinics and tumor boards. The curriculum is adaptable to emphasize the fellow’s needs and clinical and research interests.

Clinical time will be spent between the Manhattan campus of MSK and the New York Proton Center. Although the focus of the fellowship is clinical, the fellow will have opportunities to participate in a robust research program. This includes national cooperative trials and investigator-initiated studies, as well as basic and translational research.

Applicants should have completed a radiation oncology residency. Applicants from the United States are expected to be board-eligible in radiation oncology when they begin the fellowship. Exceptional international applicants who have completed a radiation oncology residency may be considered, depending on certification or licensing status. The fellow must obtain a New York physician license by the start of the fellowship.
