Dermatologist Veronica Rotemberg is Chair of the ISIC AI Working Group and collaborates with a team of international experts to improve AI for dermatology applications. We also host the ISIC Archive, a public archive of skin images for educational use and artificial intelligence (AI) development. -
AI Development for Dermatology Applications
We have received funding to study factors that influence artificial intelligence (AI) for skin applications and evaluate how clinicians and AI work cooperatively. We are also developing AI tools applied to multimodal skin data sets in collaboration with optical engineer Milind Rajadhyaksha’s Optical Imaging group and projects around automated analysis of total body photography images. -
Dermatology Imaging Informatics Standards Development
Our group has proposed and implemented dermatology specifications for the Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) standard and standardized workflows for interprofessional e-consultation and quality assurance mechanisms for clinical photography. We are interested in better understanding how to improve the dermatologist and patient experience around photography. -
Skin Cancer Epidemiology
The group is interested in studying the epidemiology of skin cancer and melanoma, especially as it guides recommendations for screening. We have recently examined the incidence of melanoma after acral melanoma (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35318644/) and the epidemiology of melanoma by age cohorts (https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0022202X21026105).
