I am a medical oncologist who focuses on the medical treatment of gynecologic cancers. I also have a research interest in developing improved therapies for endometrial cancer.

What I Do at MSK

A gynecologic (GY-neh-kuh-LAH-jik) medical oncologist is a cancer doctor who specializes in gynecologic cancers. This includes cervical, fallopian tube, ovarian, uterine (endometrial), vaginal, and vulvar cancers.

The experience was excellent in every way. Dr. Makker, as well as the entire staff, was so caring and patient with me. All of my questions were answered in a way that I could understand. I feel very confident that I am in the best possible place.

I want to note that I waited three and a half hours past my scheduled follow-up appointment time for my test results. This was due to a delay from radiology, it was not my provider's fault. Please note that is it very stressful to have to sit that long on the 6th floor of MSK at 160 East 53rd Street and wait. I had to ask to receive clear information about the delay. I feel my follow-up was scheduled too close to my scan time, and that was part of the problem. But it was a very long and tough day, seven hours total from arrival to and departure from MSK.

Ruth is outstanding - she understood my requirement and helped me get an appointment with Dr Makker asap. Uwa and Ruth make a great team! Dr Makker is amazing - besides being an expert she is so patient and caring. I am so glad to be under her care.

The most positive visit. I debated getting a small apt. In NYC so Dr Makker could treat me! The plan she said was best can be implemented locally at our Norton Cancer Center in KY. All my family, 3 daughters, 2 sons in law, and two grandsons live in Louisville. She was thorough, knowledgeable, do intelligent and the most remarkable person I've ever met. Highly recommend going to MSKCC for a 2nd opinion or treatment... it's top notch
