Grants Managers and support staff in the Grants and Contracts unit assist with pre-award processes to help researchers garner external funds for research and scholarship pursuits. They assist with proposal and budget development and are responsible for reviewing final applications to ensure that they comply with sponsoring-agency guidelines and Memorial Sloan Kettering policies. Other proposal development services include:

• Interpreting requests for proposals and sponsor requirements
• Assisting in developing components of a proposal including the budget, agency forms, and sub-contracting plans
• Submitting the application to the sponsor
• Award negotiation
• Establishing the account once an award has been made or revised
• Representing the institution in communicating to the sponsor items that require prior approval
• Training the research community in sponsored projects policies and procedures including proposal development and submission
