Rich Kodama, DO
Rich Kodama, DO is a second-year clinical fellow in the Infectious Diseases (ID) program. Dr. Kodama graduated from A.T. Still University School of Osteopathic Medicine in Mesa, Arizona, and completed his clinical rotations at New York University Langone in Brooklyn, New York. He trained as a resident in Internal Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, where he received institutional awards for his professionalism. There, he also performed quality improvement work aiming at reducing Clostridioides difficile (C. diff) rates.
Dr. Kodama is an active member of the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) and the ID Society of New York (IDSNY) and serves on the Antimicrobial Stewardship Subcommittee at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Much of Dr. Kodama’s research and publications have been related to COVID-19, including anticoagulation outcomes, impact on patients with sickle cell disease, and remote monitoring for outpatients. His clinical interests include transplant ID, hospital epidemiology, immunocompromised hosts, and mycobacterial infections.
Prior to entering medical school, Dr. Kodama was a high school mathematics and health teacher in Honolulu, Hawaii, where he was born and raised. In his free time, he enjoys bowling, exploring the big city, international travel, striving for fitness, and exploring cultures through food.
Eugene Paul Harper, MD
Eugene Paul Harper, MD is a second-year clinical fellow in the ID program. He graduated from Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota in 2018. In his final year of medical school, he rotated with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Outbreak Response and Prevention Branch, working on multi-state foodborne Salmonella and E. coli outbreaks.
Prior to starting ID fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK), Dr. Harper completed residency in Internal Medicine at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, where he was presented with the Jimmy Moss Community Service Award in recognition of his work with underserved populations in local safety-net clinics. He is an active member of the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) and the American College of Physicians (ACP) and serves on the Antimicrobial Stewardship Subcommittee at MSK.
Dr. Harper has published research in collaboration with Mayo Clinic and the CDC on the efficacy of antitoxin therapy in treatment of foodborne botulism in Clinical Infectious Diseases. He also presented an Echinococcus case series at IDWeek, and some of his quality improvement work on the reduction of healthcare facility-onset Clostridioides difficile (C. diff) rates was most recently published in Mayo Clinic Proceedings: Innovations, Quality and Outcomes. He is currently investigating intravenous immunoglobulin therapy-related phlogistic reactions with Dr. Ying Taur at MSK.
Prior to beginning his career in medicine, Dr. Harper served in the U.S. Marine Corps as an Infantry Squad Leader, completing two combat deployments to Iraq. For fun, he enjoys sailing and adventure travel.
