Memorial Sloan Kettering’s Division of Subspecialty Medicine offers a number of different electives for medical students who are interested in learning how to care for co-existing health conditions in people undergoing treatment for cancer.

Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism (M-118)
Students in this program participate in daily consultation rounds in endocrinology at Memorial Sloan Kettering and/or Weill Cornell Medical Center.

Clinical Nutrition (M-125)
Students in this program join an active consultative service encompassing various aspects of clinical nutrition, with emphasis on total parenteral nutrition, tubefeeding, and problems in malabsorption and malnutrition.

Gastroenterology
During this elective, students participate in various GI conferences, observe inpatient GI consultations by the fellows, participate in daily attending rounds, observe GI procedures, and attend outpatient clinic.

Infectious Diseases and Medical Microbiology (M-108)
Students in this program will see a variety of infectious diseases, including those complicating neoplastic disease, AIDS, and other conditions resulting in impaired host immune function.

Pulmonary Medicine (M-240)
This elective focuses on primary diagnosis and management of acute and chronic pulmonary illnesses, seen in both the inpatient and outpatient arena.

Renal and Electrolyte Disorders (M-141)
Student in this program are exposed to patients with disturbances in fluid and acid-base balance complex electrolyte abnormalities, as well as other renal diseases, and will learn about the evaluation and treatment of patients with acute renal failure, including dialysis and hemofiltration.
